Schools Aerospace Challenge

Rules

The Schools Aerospace Challenge 2008 is open to all schools and recognised youth organisations within the UK.
The competition is structured for teams of three.
A school or other organisation may enter as many teams as it chooses.
Team members must be 16-18 years of age during July and August 2008.
Teams will require the endorsement of a senior adult within their organisation e.g. Head/Careers/Science teacher or ATC Squadron Commander.
The competition opens on Friday 1 February 2008 and all entries must be received no later than Thursday 29 May 2008. In the event that two or more teams tie for places at Cranfield then the team with the earlier registration date will be awarded the place.
The teams selected to attend Cranfield will be posted on the www.aerospacechallenge.org web site by Thursday 19 June 2008.
If after selection for Cranfield a team finds they cannot field three members (even via substitution) then the organisers reserve the right to replace the team with another.
Sponsoring adults may not accompany their teams while at Cranfield although they are most welcome to visit and observe the activities for a day by prior arrangement with the organisers
The organisers will select 12 teams to attend Cranfield. Their decision will be final.
All individuals attending Cranfield will need to bring with them a consent form signed by a parent or guardian. Blank consent forms will be supplied as part of the joining instructions pack that will be sent out by email to all teams chosen for Cranfield.
Teams will be expected to meet their own travelling expenses. The course and accommodation, including full board, is provided by the sponsoring companies.

Format of Entries

All entries are to be submitted in electronic format and limited to six A4 size pages which will be printed out by the organisers.

The first page is to be used only as a cover sheet repeating (and so confirming) your team Registration details. It may carry images if desired but it should not be used as a means of increasing the space for the entry content.

The details and format of the five remaining sides of A4 are left for team members to decide although each entry must include at least one three view drawing related to the proposed design or ideas. The drawing may be to any convenient scale, bearing in mind the A4 sheet size limitation. Completed entries should be sent as an attachment to a covering email to: johnfarley@tiscali.co.uk with a backup copy in case of ISP problems to johnffarley@hotmail.co.uk The covering email to which the entry is attached should be as follows:

Sponsoring organization name plus email and phone contact details.
Email address for future team communications (even if it is the same as the as the one the message was sent from)

Ideally the entry attachment should be 1MB or less and in jpeg format. If this is not possible send an email saying the entry is ready to send and list the file size and type of each of the six pages and await further instructions.

An email confirming safe receipt of entries will normally be sent within 24 hrs. The last date for entries to be received is Thursday 29 May 2008.
